Fiancé(e) & Proposed Visa
A Fiancé(e) or Proposed Civil Partner Visa allows an eligible person to come to the UK to marry or enter a civil partnership with their UK-based partner within six months. It is an entry-clearance route and is different from both a Spouse Visa and a Marriage Visitor Visa.

FIANCÉ VISA OR MARRIAGE VISITOR VISA?
The fiancé(e) route is intended for a couple who plan to make their home in the UK after the marriage or civil partnership.
A Marriage Visitor Visa is generally for someone who intends to marry or form a civil partnership in the UK and then leave the country.
A Marriage Visitor cannot normally switch into the spouse or civil-partner route from inside the UK.
COMMON ISSUES
-
Weak or inconsistent evidence of a genuine relationship.
-
Insufficient evidence that both parties are legally free to marry.
-
Unclear or unrealistic plans for a ceremony within six months.
-
Incorrect financial evidence, particularly where income has changed or self-employment is involved.
-
Planning to work before the later spouse or civil-partner application has been granted.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I work on a Fiancé Visa?
-
No. Work and study are prohibited during the six-month fiancé(e) or proposed civil partner grant.
What happens after the wedding?
The applicant normally applies from inside the UK for permission as a spouse or civil partner before the six-month visa expires. Once that application is granted, work and study are permitted.
Does the six-month period count towards settlement?
No. The five-year standard partner period normally begins after permission as a spouse or civil partner is granted.
